Computer-simulated Kane-Scher model of a falling cat superimposed on photographs. Reprinted from T. R. Kane and M. P. Scher, “A Dynamical Explanation of the Falling Cat Phenomenon,” International Journal of Solids and Structures, 5:663–670, copyright 1969, with permission from Elsevier.

Kane and Scher’s publication seems to be the last one relating to falling cats and astronaut maneuvers. The two scientists followed up with an official publication detailing their self-rotational strategies specifically tailored for humans in 1970.26 Falling cats would be of interest to researchers in other projects, but their role in space exploration came to an end in 1969.
